Week notes #12
Hello! Here is a little update about what we’ve been up to this week.
Website-wise, we are adding pegs and bowties to the blocks library and also updating the design kit, as we know it’s missing a Rhino (*.3dm) file inside the detailed blocks design kit. The general assembly guide is starting to come together- we have more work to do in some of the sections but we are getting there. You might have also noticed the homepage now has a great little animation. What do you think? (By the way, we know there is a problem with Firefox not displaying images, we are looking into it).
The engineering guide is also progressing. New information will be available soon on the website with data concerning the performance of: 6m long beams (picture below), lintels and shear walls subjected to wind.
It’s great to see people starting to design with Skylark and sharing how they are getting on. I think we’ve replied to all your questions so far but please nudge me if you’re still waiting for an answer.
This week have had a couple of questions on file formats, so just to clarify where we’re at: We’ve released Skylark files in some common formats to start with, but our aim is to include as many formats as people want to use. Are you interested in helping us, particularly with FreeCAD and Blender versions? If so, you can fork it here https://github.com/wikihouseproject/Skylark and we’d be very happy to merge it.
March is just around the corner! Our first community event will take place on Thursday 17 March and it’s looking like it will be at 16.00 UTC. I’m going to leave the poll open a few more days and confirm the time next week. The session will be a Youtube live event to make it as easy as possible for all to join, so no need to register, you just tune in.
On that note, we really want to hold further community events this year, on topics that are of interest to you. Actually, the OSL (Open Systems Lab) team is meeting in a couple of weeks to talk about this and more, so if you have any ideas or topics you think we should have community sessions on, let me know!
Finally, did you know we offer a free service for people thinking of building a WikiHouse in the UK? Ask us anything about your project. More info: https://www.wikihouse.cc/services/suitability-check
Have a good weekend!
