Week notes #45
Hi everyone! Weeknotes is back after a brief pause. We had a busy week with two international events this week, from Madagascar to Chile, plus some team news.
On Tuesday we took part in the launch of the ForestTIA Project in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. This is a new programme being delivered in partnership with the University of Edinburgh and financed by the Royal School of Engineering, with the aim to improve forestry education and the sustainable management of forests in Madagascar. The programme will include CNC machine training, a summer school in timber engineering and the construction of a an OSB WikiHouse classroom prototype. We are really looking forward to seeing it all take shape and will update you as the project progresses.
Next, onto Chile - the longest, narrowest country in the world. On Thursday we were joined by Juan Pablo Cardenas for our first WikiHouse event of 2023. If you missed it, you can catch the recording here:
Juan Pablo is an engineer and academic and he shared how he and his team at Universidad de la Frontera in Temuco (southern Chile) have been adapting WikiHouse and using it together with traditional Chilean building techniques. Check out his YouTube channel for progress updates on the prototypes they have been building.
And an announcement of our next WikiHouse online event - to take place in just under 4 weeks on 23 February. This one is going to be an update from the team on v 0.2 of Skylark. A lot of work is going on behind the scenes at the moment to bring you the new files plus the new engineering guide. It will be a major update so we hope you can join us then - more details to follow.
Talking of the team, as many will know, Jason is leaving in a few weeks and we are looking for his replacement. Are you considering applying for the Projects Lead role? If so we would love to hear from you, and please apply soon as we might interview before the closing date/appoint someone if we meet the ideal candidate. If you have any questions please let us know too.
Finally, a reminder that if you are able to travel to Cornwall, Aaron from CNC Craft is running more hands-on WikiHouse courses in 2023, the next one in a few weeks on 15 February. All information here.
