Week notes #56
After a short break, it’s workshop time again with students from the University of Antananarivo as part of the ForesTIA project in Madagascar. Clayton, Gabriele and Tom (from the University of Edinburgh) held a session last Thursday, with Clayton showing the students how to build a WikiHouse in 5 minutes in Rhino - we are going to record him doing that again and put the video up on our Youtube channel.
Talking about Youtube, we have added new videos to the channel. Find out about ridge beams and internal walls, plus new resources for structural engineers including calculations, past papers and research.
You can also check out Clayton’s latest talk on getting to zero carbon construction here:
We are always looking for ideas for new videos that help people understand WikiHouse better, so if you have any specific requests please add them to the thread here.
Next event coming up
16 May: A 1.5 hr WikiHouse online workshop with WikiHouse manufacturers Digital Woodoo. Based in Cumbria, they are a Community Interest Company focused on sustainable and affordable housing solutions. Details: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/learn-about-wikihouse-workshop-registration-600888542807
Other bits we are working on
Gabriele has a growing list of topics for short videos he’s going to record, including beams and columns, coming to your screen soon. As mentioned before, all your requests are welcome! He’s also going to be heading to Imperial College London shortly to take part in the OSB beams testing (which was rescheduled from last week).
Amber is preparing our first CPD session for architects of the year, an in-person event in Bristol next month. We are looking forward to talking to people in real life and answering all WikiHouse related questions. She is also working on different stages of WikiHouse projects for various clients in various locations! Check out the list of services we offer here.
As well as preparing and updating all block files, Clayton has been busy looking after the WikiHouse on-demand manufacturers UK network, and exploring how we might work with international suppliers to also provide services using the WikiHouse name. Watch this space.
We are also finishing the schema for the long awaited map of WikiHouses all over the world (this is work that was delayed from last year but it’s very much top of the list for this summer), preparing for our next WikiHouse strategy day next month, and editing more videos recorded by the amazing Hub Workshop (spoiler alert: we’ll be showing you how easy it is to build WikiHouse OSB blocks).
