Week notes #79
A fantastic summer with many updates from our collaborators all over the world…
Netherlands
In June a group of students from Avans University of Applied Sciences designed and built a Skylark pavilion at Dome-X. To hear more about how the project came about head over to our YouTube channel and listen to our conversation with Nick Gevers from construction company Hendriks who made this project possible.
For more information about Hendriks’ work with Skylark in the Netherlands visit hendriks-wikihouse.nl
Also in the Netherlands, make sure to follow Hans on Instagram as he documents his WikiHouse Swift build over the month of August.
Argentina
Meanwhile in Patagonia, Manuel, Lautaro and friends have been working hard to adapt Skylark to the Argentinian context. In this conversation they tell us about their first prototype and their plans to build more WikiHouses in southern Argentina.
UK
Another project we are excited about, this time in England, is the eco classroom designed in partnership with Fircroft College of Adult Education and Architype. We love that alongside this, Fircroft has developed a learning programme that runs through all stages of the build - from carbon calculations to carbon storage, site surveys and biodiversity, as well as the build itself later in the year. Check it out and sign up.
Earlier this summer we were featured in the Timber Development UK magazine. In the article Alastair explains how WikiHouse works and why it belongs to everyone. Read it here.
New Zealand
And just as the month ended we recorded a call with WikiHouse community member Lachlan aka New Neighbour in New Zealand. Coming soon to our Youtube channel.
