Week notes #8
[These weeknotes started in late 2021 in the lead up to the release of WikiHouse Skylark, as a weekly update for our WikiHouse Slack community. Follow the link to find out more about the community and how to join.]
Short and sweet this week - here is a website update…
We have been busy fixing quite a few things (such as form integrations) before we get you to test! If you told me you wanted to test the new site you will have had a DM from me with further details. Thanks again for your help, it is hugely appreciated.
Now we turn our attention to getting our 4 guides ready: design, manufacturing, installation and engineering. We have created them in Notion and now the work starts to actually move them to the website. It’s all coming together!
Testing keeps running at full speed in the structural lab. The UoE team has just finished testing 3 specimens of the lintel above a 1.2 m window, with very interesting results (pic below). Not only the lintel could take up to 8-9 tons, but the failure mode observed was very ductile. That allows for an extra margin of safety in the design of WikiHouse for gravity loads. Looking forward to releasing all the data publicly!
Finally, are you in London on 10 February? We are having a small (in person!) launch event for Skylark - space is quite limited, but if you are interested in coming and seeing a real life Skylark structure please DM me for details. We will still have an online event for everyone else in March- so do not worry if you are not in the UK.
It wasn't easy to take them into the structural lab, but we were able to stack 9 walruses (8-9 tons) on top of the 1.2 span lintel before breaking it. #WikiMarineReserve
