Week notes #40
A big thank you to Charleston Fab Lab
A huge thank you to Nicholas Godfrey for joining us last night - a great final event for 2022! Nicholas is the founder of Charleston Fab Lab and a longtime friend of WikiHouse. He has been manufacturing houses since 2014 across the US, using and developing the system in amazing ways. Hear him talk about his work at yesterday’s event (and also check out his amazing workshop).
WikiHouse course in Cornwall
Happening elsewhere yesterday, Aaron from CNC Craft hosted an in-person workshop to introduce WikiHouse to the community in Cornwall (UK). Participants, including our colleague George, had a blast learning how to design a house using WikiHouse and how to cut and assemble a Skylark wall block. Hoping to see more of these in 2023!
Baanderherencollege in Boxtel
You might remember the pupils at Baanderherencollege were in the news a few months ago when they were collecting jeans as insulation for their WikiHouse classroom. In this post from Jeroen, you can see some recent progress photos of the classroom now with cladding being fitted.
Cost of materials
And finally, some good and bad news from these super informative graphs from BuildPartner on the trends in material construction costs in the UK. For a bit of encouraging news, since its peak earlier in 2022, the cost of timber in the UK has generally gone down or remains flat - however, on the other hand the cost of insulation continues to increase. A really interesting read plus other helpful blog posts also by them here.
